The First Steps: 1906 – 1907 

On August 7, 1906, in Kolkata’s Parsee Bagan Square, a flag with three horizontal stripes – green, yellow, and red – was unveiled. 

A National Flag of Revolution: 1917

Dr. Annie Besant and Lokmanya Tilak introduced the third variant during the Home Rule movement. The flag now boasted alternating red and green horizontal stripes, with the Union Jack in one corner. 

Gandhiji’s Touch: 1921

In 1921, a young visionary from Andhra Pradesh presented a flag design to none other than Mahatma Gandhi himself.
